While federal law, including the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, still prohibits cannabis-related activities within its border, several largely progressive laws in applicable to thirty-eight states and the District of Columbia permit the possession, cultivation, transportation, and distribution of cannabis in some form or another, including medical and adult use. This program will present a case study of three states in various stages of the full legalization process Colorado, California and Illinois. This program will cover: Brief history of cannabis legalization in these states What local governments may regulate and deem appropriate use of land within their jurisdictions Court reactions sustain local government control of cannabis activity Common trends we are seeing by local governments Fundamental cannabis specific concepts in leases Common trends we are seeing in leases and sale agreements
